Garden Planning Committee Meeting Rescheduled

Please note, the next garden planning committee meeting has been rescheduled. It will now be held Thursday, February 16, 7pm at Tommy Brown Sports Association.

Garden Planning Season is Here!

Blue Island Gardens! core planning team will spend the next couple of weeks purchasing final garden materials with our remaining CPPW Model Communities funds. 2 of our members are busy training with U of I Extension to become Master Gardeners.

Our next Core Planning Team meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7  Thursday, February 16 at 7pm. Meeting to be held at Tommy Brown Sports Association.

We’re also planning a community gardener meeting for sometime in February. Master Gardeners from South Cook County will be on hand to assess gardener experience and learn what everyone wants to go. We’ll also learn how to create a Heritage Garden. More information, including date, time & location to be determined.

Gardeners & Volunteers Needed for 2012 Season

Winter may just have started, but we’re already planning for the 2012 community gardening season.

Our Community Garden Core Planning Team will be meeting at 7pm on January 17, 2012 at the Tommy Brown Sports Association (former Blue Island Rec Center). If you’re interested in volunteering to help plan for the upcoming season, please join us.

Volunteers Needed

We are currently looking for people who would be interested in the following volunteer opportunities:

1. Final site design & organizational planning for the California Gardens Community Garden
2. Assisting with startup of the food pantry plot program & help tending the food pantry plots.

Community Garden Plots Available

Memorial Park Community Garden

Active for the past 2 years, this garden is located behind the Memorial Park Pool. Raised bed garden plots are 4’x10’ and available for rent at $25 per season.

California Gardens Community Garden (CG2)

A brand new garden for 2012 – CG2 offers 10’x10’ and 4’x10’ garden plots, a hoophouse, mini orchard and food pantry plots.
